Eco Action Games Project
Section: Volunteering (Raising Awareness)
Level: All
Who is it for: Schools within the London Borough of Lambeth
Who can apply: Teachers or School Leaders from schools in Lambeth
Eco Action Games raise awareness of the importance of water and related energy use through environmental education, engagement and behaviour change through engagement with fun, interactive, off-line environmental games.

The project: Each participating school will receive free of charge giant eco action playground compendium set to keep – this is funded by Thames Water as part of their water efficiency activities. Eco Action Games trained environmental staff will visit the school to educate a selected group of Duke of Edinburgh about water saving, environmental issues and instruct them how to host and facilitate their own eco playground event (these can be both inside and outdoor events). DofE participants can use this knowledge towards their Volunteering section by running such eco playgrounds in primary schools, community groups etc. Towards the end of the project, students will also have the opportunity to design their own water saving game which is entered into a competition to be judged in the Spring 2015. The giant water eco compendium pack (worth £600) will be kept by the school, so these events can be replicated for future DofE groups.

To Apply: If you are a teacher or member of school staff and wish to get your school involved or to find out more details, contact Paula Owen at paula@ecoactiongames.org.uk or call her on 07920 090931 More information about Eco Action Games generally can be found at www.ecoactiongames.org.uk

GSUK Mobile Phone Recycling
Section: Volunteering (Fundraising)
Level: All
Who is it for: All DofE Groups
Who can apply: Leaders
About: The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is offering our networks an innovative fundraising scheme in partnership with Genuine Solutions UK (GSUK). GSUK’s Recyclewise mobile phone recycling scheme can be set up by any of our partners to fundraise for your Groups, Centres and Licensed Organisations.

The scheme can provide financial support at a critical time and also supports our core environmental principles. GSUK recycle 99% of used materials, from plastic and cardboard packaging right through to precious metals and LCDs from the accessories and handsets themselves – ensuring a minimum of environmental impact for a maximum of return.

The scheme is designed to benefit all involved: participants can fulfill their Volunteering section by coordinating a Recycling campaign and groups, centres and the Charity can raise much needed funds, all while helping the environment.

To apply: Register on our webpage and member of our team will be in touch to arrange a pack of promotional and collection materials: http://www.dofe.org/go/phones/

Funding Opportunities

Erasmus+ is the EU programme for education, training, youth and sport. Erasmus+ started on 1 January 2014 and replaces current funding programmes run by the European Commission in the area of education, training, youth and sport, including the Lifelong Learning Programme, Youth in Action and other international programmes including Jean Monnet and Erasmus Mundus.

There are many streams of funding available to schools, youth groups, voluntary organisations and informal groups of young people in the UK. There are many opportunities to add value to your DofE programme – examples could include funding International youth exchange visits that may fulfil the Residential Section requirements (Action 1: Mobility of Young People), local Social Action or Campaigning activities for the Volunteering Section (Action 3: Meetings between Young People and Decision-Makers) or a whole variety of sporting, school or other intercultural projects.
